Rogers and Canoe team up on web portal

TORONTO -- Rogers Publishing Ltd. and Canoe Inc. are teaming up to bundle content from 11 magazines on the Internet, in a deal that will create a major online presence by combining stories from some of the country's best-known magazine websites with the reach of the canoe.ca portal.

The Quebecor Media-owned portal will offer articles from FLARE.com, chatelaine.com, macleans.ca, Todaysparent.com and more.

Harley workers' union authorizes strike

YORK, Pa. -- The union representing nearly 2,800 employees at Harley-Davidson's largest plant overwhelmingly rejected a contract offer Wednesday and authorized a strike if a new deal cannot be reached before the current contract expires Friday.

Ninety-six per cent of the workers who attended a meeting to hear details of the company's offer voted to reject it, and 98 per cent subsequently voted to authorize a strike.

Greyhound extends overdue contract

DALLAS -- Greyhound Lines Inc. said it has extended for two weeks a labour contract with drivers and other employees that was due to expire Wednesday, avoiding for now any interruption in bus service.

Talks are set to resume Feb. 11 -- three days before the extension ends.

The contract covers 3,300 workers, including 3,000 drivers and about half the bus company's mechanics.

Hilton Hotels Q4 profit nearly doubles

LOS ANGELES -- Hotel chain operator Hilton Hotels Corp. said Wednesday its fourth-quarter profit nearly doubled as revenue per available room increased and revenue from leased hotels surged.

The company raised its 2007 estimates for per-room revenue, a key industry measure, a sign that the company's expansion plans are being matched by worldwide demand.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- After wading through a river of red ink for two years, Eastman Kodak Co. finally hauled in a modest profit in the fourth quarter. For the first time, it also generated more earnings from digital photography and commercial printing than from its storied film business.

Alcan CEO optimistic over Kitimat project

MONTREAL -- Alcan Inc.'s (TSX:AL) B.C. smelter expansion project has been delayed and could be in jeopardy, but CEO Dick Evans said Wednesday he's optimistic a solution can still be found. The Montreal-based aluminum company heads into 2007 with the Kitimat, B.C., project still unresolved after swinging to a record fourth-quarter profit of US$422 million from a year-ago loss of US$361 million.

NYSE, Tokyo create far-reaching alliance

NEW YORK -- The New York Stock Exchange and Tokyo Stock Exchange announced an alliance Wednesday that extends the NYSE's global reach and could lead to an eventual combination of the world's two largest financial markets. The broad, non-exclusive agreement allows the two stock markets to co-operate on joint developments such as financial products, mutual listings and technology.
