Not so long ago, acoustic artist Nyoy Volante was featured in a magazine introduced as a new singer to watch out for. Some people may have raised their eyebrows and thought they were seeing another wannabe star to immediately end up in obscurity even before he manages to make things work. Six albums after and with a career that has made him one of the finest acoustic acts in town, Nyoy must be feeling heaven.

Besides, he’s on his way to finishing his seventh album and was recently signed up by big label MCA Music which should only mean he is bound for more albums to come. During the recent ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the 15th year of Heritage Hotel in Pasay (where Nyoy was special guest), the multi-talented musician expressed his excitement over the ongoing recording process for his yet untitled latest CD. “Natutuwa kami kasi we were given the freedom to express dito sa album at maipaparinig namin how we want to sound like,” he said. Nyoy is best associated with numbers relying mainly on his acoustic guitar-playing as he sings with all the high notes and curls. However he is now backed up by a full band, with a violinist enriching his sound all the more. The new album, his first under MCA which added him to its stable of hit-making local artists, is, according to Nyoy, loaded with originals along with two (at the most) covers. As expected “love songs” will serve as the package’s theme. The new album to be out in record bars hopefully by next month, Nyoy boasted, “Mas malapit ‘yung live performances namin sa tunog ng album namin ngayon. Talagang pinagpupursigihan namin ito.”The singer-songwriter who penned Nina’s big hit “Someday” uttered such a statement the fact
embroidered patches that some of his previous albums sounded quite different from how he performs live probably because of too much overdubbing and curing which somehow alienated the live feel of the performances. Nyoy is among the celebrities who graced the occasion at Heritage which included the unveiling of a photo montage of key people who already performed, stayed, and visited the hotel. Other entertainment personalities were singer Acel Besa and comedienne Jinky Oda. The recent years saw Heritage reaching new heights of achievement, emphasized by the renovation and overall new look of the 450-rooms and suites accommodations. Some of its guest performers lately were John Ford Coley, Rex Smith, and the LA cast of Beatlemania.
